Each time, I cry. My daughter and I are WPRA members (me since 1976--she since 1999) and understand the hardships that rodeos can put on a family. Funny thing is...I always told my daughter to "Never get involved with a bull rider". Three years ago she met Sean (a bull rider) and they are getting married in October. As much as I love them, I have a hard time watching him ride. He is recovering from a broken arm from a bull on July 24th. Last year a bull smashed his face and he ended up in the trauma unit with surgery. I don't think anyone understands rodeo families. We are special people with great "on the road families". My X-husband said it's rodeos or me....that's why he is an X! Our love goes out to you and your family. Lane is an inspiration to anyone who wants to be a cowboy or cowgirl. Values and determination and the Good Lord above to guide him. His love of the sport and his love for Jesus was very evident in his life. Lane was and still is a hero in my eyes. Other than my own dad whom I love very much, Lane has been the only other hero in my life. I am in the military now and even though I no longer rodeo as I did in my high school days, I still use the qualities I learned by watching Lane ride. He taught me to never give up and always know that at some point in your life you have to swallow your pride to do what is right. It is human nature to not always want to do the right thing, but when you reach way down inside of yourself and look at what needs to be done then you have no choice but to Cowboy Up and do what is right.
